RiskScreen FAQ

Why should I care about leaving a footprint on a search engine?

Many companies are waking up to the fact that when you are searching the internet you are not searching in a secure environment. Over time repeated searches on an entity will flag your IP address’ interest in your search subject.

Search engines collate search data for numerous reasons such as targeted user advertising and improving their search algorithms. However the US Department of Justice have issued subpoenas to several major search engines such as AOL and MSN. Google fought off their subpoena at the time however under the PATRIOT Act if they did hand over their search data they will not be able to tell anyone that they have done so.

RiskScreen allows you to search in a secure environment so you don’t leave a footprint on a public search engine. We don’t keep a record of user’s search activity within the site so even if we did have to hand over our records we can’t link any one user’s activity to any particular search made within the system.
